The Flying Dutchman

Bio: This corps from Dordrecht, located in the Netherlands is performing on the world stage sinds july '26.

It's name is based on the world famous Dutch folklore of captain Willem van der Decken who was somewhere in the 1600's insisting on sailing from the Netherlands to Batavia in Indonesia on easter morning.
Despite bad weather and his wife telling him not to go he went anyway.

After a while the VOC-ship reached Cape of Good hope in South Africa, he tried to pass this cape while his crew was protesting, they begged him to return to the Table Bay to seek shelter, but captain van der Decken refused and said:

"May I be eternally damned if I do,
though I should beat about here till the
day of judgement"

As punishment the devil got power over the ship and captain Willem van der Decken has to roam the seas for eternity, with his dead crew silently executing there tasks.

Sometimes the Flying Dutchman sends a sloop with a bunch of letters to unlucky ships crossing it's path, asking them to send them to their long deceased familymembers.

According to survivors who encountered the Dutchman, the ship, with sails red as blood, sails against the wind above the water, that's how it earned it's name The Flying Dutchman.
