Mold Eaters
Season 5 Production: "Past the Expiration Date"
Everyone throws it away... except the Mold Eaters.
Deep inside the forgotten corners of the refrigerator, an entire civilization thrives. While humans see spoiled leftovers and fuzzy bread, the Mold Eaters see opportunity. From forgotten milk to week-old pizza, they celebrate the strange beauty of decomposition and prove that one person's trash is another organism's feast.
The production takes the audience on a hilariously grotesque journey through the lifecycle of forgotten food. What begins as a spotless refrigerator slowly transforms into a colorful ecosystem of mold, fungi, and decay before culminating in a triumphant celebration of nature's original recycling program.
By the end, the audience may never look at the back of their refrigerator the same way again.
Repertoire
1. "Fresh" – Kool & The Gang
A pristine refrigerator. Everything is organized, fresh, and full of promise.
2. "Tainted Love" – Soft Cell
Time passes. The milk sours, the bread begins to fuzz, and yesterday's leftovers become tomorrow's science experiment.
3. "Another One Bites the Dust" – Queen
One food item after another succumbs to the inevitable. Cheese, fruit, leftovers, and vegetables all fall victim to time as the Mold Eaters multiply.
4. "Bad" – Michael Jackson
The mold has taken over. Green, blue, and white colonies spread across the field in an aggressive visual movement featuring twisting drill and chaotic percussion.
5. "Stayin' Alive" – Bee Gees
Despite being "past the expiration date," the Mold Eaters celebrate the resilience of life. The show ends with a tongue-in-cheek reminder that nature always finds a way—even if your leftovers shouldn't.
